A Brief History of the Department:

The Department of Geography of Ghanakanta Baruah College is one of the pioneer geographical study centresin this locality i.e. in the surrounding area of District Headquarter of Morigaon. It was established in the year of 1st September, 1993 along with the establishment of the College. Late Kamaleswar Deka, the founder Principal of the College along with the Sri Sushil Kr. Saikia and Sri Kailash Ch. Chauhan, the then teaching faculties of Geography were credited with the success of the pioneering activities of the department. It was in 1996 when the major courses of Geography were started. Sri …………………, assistant teacher, Morigaon H.S. & M.P. School was appointed as part time guest faculty after the introduction of major course. During this time, the practical examinations were held in Jagiroad College and the theory in Morigaon College. During the year 1998, the department ………….with examinations centre.
